Rabbi Doctor J. David Bleich
Herbert and Florence Tenzer Professor of Jewish Law and Ethics at Yeshiva University

 

Dr. Bleich is professor of Talmud (Rosh Yeshiva) at Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary, an affiliate of Yeshiva University, and is head of its postgraduate institute for the study of Talmudic jurisprudence and family law. Among his published works are: Jewish Bioethics; With Perfect Faith: Foundations of Jewish Belief; Contemporary Halakhic Problems (five volumes); Time of Death in Jewish Law; Judaism and Healing; and Bioethical Dilemmas: A Jewish Perspective (two volumes), as well as the Hebrew-language Be-Netivot ha-Halakhah. He was a Woodrow Wilson Fellow and a postdoctoral fellow at the Hastings Center. He is a fellow of the Academy of Jewish Philosophy and a member of the Governor's Commission on Life and the Law. The title of his talk was : "Fetal Tissue and Stem Cell Research: Jewish Tradition and Public Policy"
